Largest Fundraising Event to Benefit IHRS Foster Rabbits
“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The enthusiasm of Four Paws Club members and students at Southwest Elementary School has resulted in something great for Indiana House Rabbit Society rabbits – the single largest fundraising event! On behalf of Indiana House Rabbit Society, and our 52 foster rabbits, we would like to thank them for their enthusiasm and generosity!
The students sold paper bunnies for 50 cents each. Mr. Brown’s fifth grade class sold the most paper bunnies and won a McDonald’s Happy Meal Party. The Four Paws Club also hosted a Bunny Hop Dance, selling tickets for $2 each and refreshments for 50 cents each.
The students’ generous donation ($940) will help many rabbits like Jessica, who visited the school to accept the donation. Jessica was purchased and surrendered by her owner to another rescue group with ear mites, which are very painful. $940 would pay to treat 15 rabbits with Jessica’s ear condition!
“There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.”
Henry Ford
We hope that the Four Paws Club members, and students at Southwest Elementary School are very happy, and proud, of their truly great and inspiring fundraising accomplishment! Indiana House Rabbit Society and our foster rabbits thank you very, very much!
In late May, Indiana HRS hosted an on-line auction using eBay to raise funds to help IHRS foster rabbits. I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our members and volunteers – a total of 88 items were donated, 62 of which were successfully sold. We raised almost $500 to help IHRS foster rabbits. This helped to defray the medical costs for rabbits like George, Felix, Reggie, JuJu, Maya, Kennedy and Wynne.
Many thanks to those who bid on items during the auction – thanks so much for your support! Special thanks to Brigitte who donated the many Home Interiors items, Dana who helped write descriptions of the items, Amanda who helped organize and weigh the items, and to Ben who assembled the final packaging after the auction ended.
We learned a lot during this event and look forward to incorporating feedback for our next on-line auction to benefit foster rabbits. One of the most important lessons we learned is that non-rabbit themed merchandise reaches a much wider audience and higher sale prices. If you have items to donate for our next auction, please contact Karen. Remember – please limit the donations to items that can be easily packaged and mailed (i.e. no furniture).
